The Nazarbayev University (NU) ACI Student Chapter, composed of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) students from the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences (SEDS), has been named one of the Outstanding Chapters in the 2024 ACI Student Chapter Awards. This marks the second consecutive win for the chapter, further solidifying its position among the top student organizations globally in concrete and civil engineering. The official recognition will take place at the ACI Concrete Convention from March 30 to April 2, 2025, in Toronto, Canada.
According to Saltanat Kydyrkhanova, President of the NU ACI Student Chapter, this achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of NU’s civil and environmental engineering students.
"Winning this award for the second year in a row demonstrates our commitment to excellence in civil engineering and our active engagement in industry-relevant research and activities," she stated.
The selection process for the award is rigorous. Student chapters must submit an annual report showcasing their activities, including participation in ACI competitions, research initiatives, industry collaborations, and outreach efforts. ACI carefully reviews these reports and ranks chapters based on established criteria.
"ACI has approximately 350 student chapters worldwide, making this award highly competitive. Only a select few receive recognition as Outstanding or Excellent Student Chapters. Winning for two consecutive years places NU among the top institutions in concrete-related education," Kydyrkhanova explained.
NU’s ACI Student Chapter has stood out due to its consistent involvement in academic and professional development programs. Over the past year, the chapter has organized:
"All these activities contributed to our success. Another key factor is the structured organization of our chapter, ensuring consistent engagement from our members," Kydyrkhanova added.
This recognition not only enhances NU’s reputation in the global civil engineering community but also creates opportunities for students. The chapter will receive an award plaque and digital banners, and its accomplishments will be featured in ACI’s official publications, including Concrete International Magazine and the ACI News Webpage.
"This award opens doors for our students to attend international ACI events and conferences, network with industry leaders, and apply for exclusive scholarships and research grants," Kydyrkhanova noted.

"We want to build on this success and encourage more students to join. The goal is to further strengthen our impact in the field and maintain NU’s position as a leader in engineering education and innovation," Kydyrkhanova emphasized.
