The School of Mining and Geosciences at Nazarbayev University is pleased to share that Dr. Sergei Sabanov, Associate Professor, delivered a lecture titled “Rational Use of Natural Resources” for 150 fourth-grade students at Steppe School.

The lecture introduced school students to the concept of natural resources, with a particular focus on mineral resources and their importance in everyday life. During the session, students learned what mineral resources are, where they are found, how they are extracted, and why they should be used carefully and responsibly.

Special attention was given to the responsible use of non-renewable natural resources. The lecture helped explain how people use these resources in the production of everyday items such as cars, houses, phones, and electricity, while also emphasizing the importance of conservation. Students were also introduced to simple ways of helping preserve natural resources, including saving electricity, recycling metal, and properly disposing of batteries.

In addition, the presentation highlighted broader ideas related to sustainability, including examples of land rehabilitation and the role of renewable energy sources in helping preserve natural resources for future generations.
