NU SEDS Professor Zhumabay Bakenov Bakenov has become the first-ever recipient of Kazakhstan’s state award — the honorary title of "Kazakhstan’s Honored Worker of Science and Technology," personally awarded by the President of Kazakhstan.
Professor Bakenov is currently leading the first and largest international research group at NU in advanced energy storage systems and functional nanomaterials. One of the group’s flagship projects is the development of precursors for cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries using Kazakhstan’s raw materials — a bold step toward technological independence and global competitiveness in high-tech innovation.
This prestigious award was presented on the eve of today’s celebration — the Day of Science Workers, which is observed in Kazakhstan on April 12. It marks a historic milestone for both our school and Nazarbayev University, reinforcing our commitment to world-class research.
